So, what do you do?
Guided by the motto “learn continuously, live generatively,” I am a business instructor, instructional designer, and corporate trainer with extensive experience as a writer, speaker, and consultant. Skilled in learning management systems such as Blackboard, Canvas, eCollege, edX, and Moodle, I develop and teach communication, management, and marketing courses for adult learners online, on campus, and in blended learning environments. In corporate settings, I conduct business communication, decision-making, and social media marketing workshops. I have taught marketing and management courses to undergraduate students here in Dubai since September 2014.
Where have you lived before Dubai?
Massachusetts (Boston) and California (San Francisco, Santa Barbara, and Los Angeles).
What's a common problem that you find easy to solve?
Organizing and communicating information through the written word. My first book, edX E-Learning Course Development, is a 300-page user manual that was published in 2015 to help teachers and trainers design, develop, and deploy MOOC courses on the edX platform. I have also authored scholarly papers, feature articles, and Doctorious—a blog about my adventures in academia. I have a few unfinished novels and am often inspired to write a poem or short story.
Describe your perfect day.
A perfect day for me starts in the late afternoon: if I didn’t have anywhere to be in the morning, my day would start around 3PM and end roughly 12 hours later. The day itself would be loosely scheduled and flexible with zero meetings, but would include lots of writing, creating, and learning with just my special someone by my side. As much as I enjoy the energy of teaching and training, more and more I crave time to focus and create knowledge that I can share with others – without having to meet with them about it!
What did you want to be when you were 8 years old?
There’s a popular meme that states “Always be yourself, unless you can be Batman. Then always be Batman.” However, I’ve always wanted to be Superman.
